Early settlement at China
There are lots of area have human, plants, and animal. I choose the China for my research because I am Chinese, and I think China has very long history that people can explore.
According to the history, I found the easiest Homo erectus from Yellow River at 150 B.C. The article of Early Settlements China states that Homo erectus found in million years ago, “Homo erectus appears in fossils found in East Africa’s Rift Valley dating from about 1.9 million years ago. Until recent years the earliest traces of Homo erectus found in East Asia dated from perhaps a million years later” (Early Settlements).
The Yellow River or Huang He is the second-longest river in China and the sixth longest in the world at 5,464 kilometers. Originating in the Bayankala Mountains in Qinghai Providence in Western China, and in the end into the Bo Sea. The Yellow River flows through nine provinces of China, Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Henan, Shandong Providences. In China, Chinese people always call “Mother River” for Yellow River, which not only Yellow River is birthplace, rather than she used her body, water, to give lots of people life. In order to prove this reason, I found an article was published in Water Resources Research states “as the main water resource for large parts of China, the Yellow river stream flow contributes 2% of the total water resource of China and supplies 15% of the water used for agriculture producing and 12% of the water used by the population of the country.” On the other hand, the climate of the Yellow River also very suits of people to live near there. The climate of Yellow River is continental monsoon. According to the article of Climate Change and Hydrological Hydrological Variation Scenarios in the Yellow River Basin “The Yellow River Basin has been the main agricultural region in China since ancient times.” I think that is why people choose the Yellow River for the settlement place.
In this article of Climate Change and Hydrological Hydrological Variation Scenarios in the Yellow River Basin, the author also states “Under the cold and dry climate conditions in the upper reach, the vegetation types include mainly alpine shrubs, meadow, and deserts, and temperate steppes and deserts. In the middle reach, the vegetation belts are forest, forest steppe; steppe and desert steppe with decreased vegetation cover degrees from east to west. Cultivated vegetation distributes mainly in the Ningxia Plain, the top of the Great Bend and the lower reach.” We can found these places in the map, the cold and dry climate conditions are Ningxia, Qinghai, Gansu, and the middle reach cities are Shandong, Sichuan, and Henan. Related the assignment 2, nowadays China, the economic of Shandong, Sichuan, and Henan better than Ningxia, Qinghai, and Gansu; that because people moved to some cities have better climate and easier to live. The water and greater climate can provide soil to get more plains; provide animal to drink and eat; provide people to live. That is “Gun, Germ, and Steel.”
In the end, even if nowadays people have more and more way to get the foods and they can live in somewhere does not very well; they also prefer to choose somewhere can live better and easier.

This map shows the Yellow River watered in the world, through different provinces, help people think which province has better economic, that mean which province has better environment for people.

Capture from the google map from myself.
I capture this map because there are mountain near the Yellow River, and the mountain can provide the plains and animal for people. That is why people choose the Yellow River.
